Planning ahead is essential for a good result. You should start with a perfectly level surface for tiling. Do not cut corners - preparing the surface is vital. The surface should be true, dry, rigid, sound, clean and free from salts, grease, dust and any contamination which may prevent adhesion.

The best tiling jobs have a mirror-like flatness where the tiles are square, evenly spaced and have no narrow cuts.
